Boombot lives into the 2020s, who would have thought?

The year is 2013, I am a freshman at Florida State University, and in between classes my hobby is playing music, mostly from the 1980's and 1990's, on a vintage boombox. The cover image is from within the past couple years and can be found by googling "WVFS Boombot", the mascot for FSU's student-run radio station that my roommate and I created. The boombox face plate on Boombot is from the very one that I used to play songs like "Cantaloop" to unwitting fellow FSU students at what was in retrospect probably a slightly disrespectful volume.

Don't worry, after my roommate and I sacrificed the boombox to give birth to Boombot, we bought a bigger, louder boombox to replace it, which I believe is still in my garage today, though don't quote me on that. I am amazed that Boombot remains in functioning shape today, it is a testament to my roommate's engineering skills.

I can remember rather specifically "Cantaloop" being a favorite song of mine at the time, I had the full album on cassette but would often just rewind to play Cantaloop over again. There is not really anything like it, or this album in general, in terms of the smooth jazzy production, I believe it is considered to be an influence on Kendrick's famous 2015 To Pimp A Butterfly record.

P.S.

Fun fact: The WVFS Public Relations team that created Boombot in 2013 also included Christine Goodwyne of Pool Kids fame.
